Goodnight, stranger
Why I want to create “goodnight, stranger”?
At the beginning of this semester, I flight to France alone for my study. I come from a crowded and noisy city in China and was never lived alone before. But in the silent and remote countryside, I have spent a lot of time get along with myself especially under the pressure of Covid. And since the time difference, all my old friends are in the deep sleep when I am going to sleep, I can only say goodnight to myself and my loneliness.
At this time, I begin to study the knowledge of Internet design and API(Application Programming Interface), a computer interface which defines interactions between multiple software intermediaries. I want to create a platform which allow the strangers to say “good night” to each other.
What you can do at “goodnight, stranger”?
A user can type a few words like “good night”, after that he/she may receive a goodnight message from another person, who may sleep a few minutes or the several hours ago. And the goodnight the user said can also be heard by another person waiting for a greeting came from a stranger.
A user can type a few words as a simple greeting. But also, they can tell the story of the day or share a phrase of a poem.By this way, another user can receive more interesting content. But still, even a simple word has it power.
This function is aimed to give a little power for the person fighting with difficulties in the road of success. A short sentence may not replace a virtual hug but maybe your words can make a little difference, especially in the lonely night.
How we can achive this function?
To achieve this function, we are going to use a technique of API. It defines the kinds of calls or requests that can be made, how to make them, the data formats that should be used, the conventions to follow, etc. It can also provide extension mechanisms so that users can extend existing functionality in various ways and to varying degrees.
If that sounds too complicated. Luckily, we now have a powerful assistant--Zapier! In Zapier, it is easy to create multiple Service collaborations in the same task flow.It is often described as a translator between web APIs.
